It can be difficult to look to the future when the planet is dying. Sea levels are rising, temperatures are getting higher, and corporate greed remains a roadblock for any progress on this issue. It can all seem so hopeless, and as individuals we often feel powerless to make any real change.
Should this impede our willingness to plan for the future, when everything seems so uncertain? My mind tells me no, that we as individuals should still press forward and try to control as much of our lives as possible and make what little change we can. That doing otherwise would be the equivalent of lying down and dying.
But most of the time, my heart tells me that planning for the future is futile. What will the Earth look like after being ravaged by several more decades of climate change? It often feels like my life is on rails hurtling towards a crash. We are put into an impossible situation — to prepare for an utterly unpredictable future. And sometimes it feels like all there is to do is to brace for impact.
